March and April Caribbean Charters – Virgin Islands, Windward Islands, Grenadines

Starlight is currently open from mid-March through mid-April.   Very exciting, I will be taking some regular and wonderful guests for an 18-day trip from the Grenadines to Antigua late April through early May.   This means, Starlight can be available anywhere in the Eastern Caribbean during the break.  Please contact us to learn more about the options.

March:  Book anywhere in the  BVI – Grenadines

April:  Book anywhere from St. Maarten (St Barths) – Grenadines

We love the Grenadines, Windward Island and Antigua.   From the Saints off Guadaloupe, to the the Pitons of st. Lucia, the Windward Islands are stunning and serene.   The Grenadines, including Bequai, Tobago Cays and Union Island, are known for their rustic old Caribbean feel.   Martinique and Dominica are stunningly picturesque with Dominica holding the best rain forests in the Caribbean.

Possible Chartering Destinations for your week:

USVI and BVI:  Still our favorite and available in March 2018.  So much is open.   The islands are as beautiful as you remember.

St. Maarten, St. Barths and Anguilla:  From natural beauty to swank spots and the option of a few nude beaches thrown in, this is a regular area for Starlight.

Antigua:  Antigua is a hot spot this season.  With wonderful beaches, snorkeling and scenic ports, Antigua is wonderful by boat.

St. Lucia – The Saints:  St. Lucia, Martinique, Dominica and the Saints have wonderful swimming, great beaches and lovely cafes and restaurants.  This is a truly relaxing itinerary.

The Grenadines:  Old Caribbean charm with wonderful beaches, hikes, restaurants and shopping are on tap in the Grenadines.   We are most excited about this offering.

We can give you lots of information on each of these great spots to choose the one right for your week aboard Starlight.  Rates range from $7000 per week for a Captain Only experience to $12,000 fully crewed with chef for four adults.

Time to Give: Starlight’s List of Virgin Islands Relief Organizations

Captain Toby meets with Mrs. Sharon Flax Brutus on Virgin Gorda.

Starlight is proud to help in the recovery effort to the US and British Virgin Islands.   In September, the Virgin Islands were devastated by two Category 5 hurricanes.   While the tourism industry has worked hard with incredible progress to bring back wonderful tourist spots, three months after the storm the islands still need our help.  Many areas are still without power and many families go one living without basic necessities.  With the vast majority of resorts closed and many not opening until 2019, many Virgin Islanders will be out of work for a significant period.

Please consider donating to one of the following reputable charities, which are just a few of the many outstanding organizations working in the Virgin Islands.

British Virgin Islands

  • BVIStrong Fund

The BVIStrong Fund, set up by the British Virgin Islands government, is raising funds to go towards rebuilding the territory after the storm’s devastation, and helping the people who have lost everything due to the destruction of Hurricane Irma.

  • Virgin Unite

Longtime BVI Resident Businessman and Philanthropist Richard Branson is raising money through Virgin Unite tasked with working with the BVI Government and the local community across the whole of the BVI, listening to their needs, in order to come up with a plan to support this long term reconstruction.  As a very cool side note to this charity, Virgin Unite’s overheads are covered by Richard Branson and the Virgin Group, meaning that 100% of all donations received will go directly to helping support local BVI communities.

  • Virgin Gorda Relief Supply Fund

Virgin Gorda is raising money through the Virgin Gorda Relief Supply Fund.  This wonderful group was organized by Dive Shop owner Casey McNutt and we can rest assured that 100% of the funds are going to help families in Virgin Gorda.

United States Virgin Islands

  • Love for Love City Foundation

The Love for Love City Foundation is an awesome effort by Kenny Chesney to provide relief to St. John and the US Virgin Islands.   The Foundation has made significant contributions to the recovery in the BVI, particularly on Jost Van Dyke, which is very close to St. Johnian’s hearts.  Chesney’s foundation has also made heroic efforts to relieve the strain on Virgin Island animals (like our boat dog Bamboo) and has airlifted hundreds of dogs and cats out of the territory.  Chesney is raising funds through merchandise along with donations.

  • Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands

The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands is raising funds for relief and restoration of the USVI.  The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands is an established philanthropic organization that manages a permanent collection of funds as well as essential programs and services to benefit the citizens of the USVI.  They are particularly well positioned to assess the needs and distribute funds in a smart and just manner.

  • 21 USVI Hurricane Relief Fund

The 21 USVI Hurricane Relief Fund is organized by St. Thomas native and professional NBA basketball player Tim Duncan.  Tim Duncan joined a few other notable figures (like Kenny Chesney and Michael Bloomberg) early on after the storms to bring awareness and relief to the Virgin Islands.

There are many more wonderful organizations to give to in the Virgin Islands.  Whoever you give to, the Virgin Islands certainly needs and appreciates the help.   People here are working hard everyday, but need help.

Thank you in advance with your help to reVIve the Virgin Islands,

Captain Toby

As a post script side note, at the time of this post i could find no evidence through research that USVI resident billionaire and major property owner Jeffrey Epstein has given to the relief effort in any meaningful way.  Unlike the British Virgin Island’s dynamic philanthropic billionaire resident Richard Branson, Mr. Epstein is a criminal and a highly controversial character who has unfortunately been involved in pedophilia and sex trafficking.  Regardless, Mr. Epstein claims to be a philanthropist and even promotes his “Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation.”  If anyone reading this can assert influence to persuade Mr. Epstein to give in the community where he has engaged in his deviant life for many years, now would be the time.  If I am wrong and Mr. Epstein is keeping a “low profile” in his giving (outside employing masses to help in the gigantic effort underway to rebuild his own properties),  please let me know and I will give my sincerest apologies for this sentiment.

Starlight’s Post-Irma Virgin Islands Tour : The Virgin Islands are ready — and more wonderful than ever.

Taken December 3rd, 2017

Starlight arrived on Friday to our winter home in the Virgin Islands.  It is so wonderful to be back in paradise.  Everyone has been tirelessly working, amazingly, to bring the islands further along than we could have ever expected.  Things are fluid in the post-Irma Virgin Islands,  but moving quickly in a positive direction.   From Anegada to St. Thomas, there are a ton of spots open and a lot of great opportunities for a truly fantastic week-long sailing vacation.  There are some opportunities, too, for those who want to help tourism and assist in the enormous need for relief (giving links included our next post will address relief tourism). Mother nature, too, is in full recovery mode with lush green hills, sparkling emerald blue warm water, fantastic underwater wildlife and the best scenery anywhere. The BVI remains Nature’s Miracle and the most fun paradise on earth.

There is plenty to do here in the Virgin Islands.  Based on what we’ve seen this week, here is a bit of what to expect when you charter with Starlight or any of the wonderful BVI and USVI charter companies in the early stages of Irma recovery.   We will report back next week with more info after our charter. So, stay tuned.

Virgin Gorda

We went first to Virgin Gorda where we have spent a great deal of time on charter and off.   We love Virgin Gorda!TheVirgin Gorda Relief Operations Center team (VRGROC)(donate here and visit their facebook) along with team Branson and others have been working hard at getting Virgin Gorda up and running.  The Bath’s are looking great, as is Savannah Bay and lower Virgin Gorda.  We have not yet visited the North Sound, but know that Leverick Bay is open and The Happy Arr with Michael Bean will be back this season.

Starlight is on charter from December 10-15th and will update with plenty of pictures and info on the recovery in North Sound.

I had the honor of meeting the BVI Director of Tourism, Ms. Sharon Flax Brutus, and deliver some relief supplies from Starlight Guests. I also enjoyed a delicious meal at Coco Maya restaurant, sophisticated culinary oasis that is awesome by any standard.

Jost Van Dyke

Jost Van Dyke is open and thriving!  You can help by donating to the BVI relief fund (click here).

In White Bay, Soggy Dollar Bar is leading the way to recovery in White Bay and is serving up fun mixed with painkillers and a beach. Soggy’s is fun as ever!  A recent addition to White Bay, Hendo’s Hidout, is thriving with a fantastic menu and lovely scene.  Other great beach bars are open in different stages.  White Bay is great for Sunday Funday on Starlight.

Around the corner, Foxy’s is going strong.  They have a link to donation with the Jost Van Dyke Preservation Society.  We had an excelling dinner with wonderful service, and fun times with Foxy himself who is in great spirits.   Starlight is currently open for a special Caribbean Christmas followed by a truly special year at Foxy’s infamous New Years party (this year a simple Toga Theme).

Dec 3 2017

Great to see Foxy!

Sandy Spit is still with us and Manchioneel Bay is stunning secluded beauty. We spent our first night in the BVI here and it remains one of the truly most beautiful places in existence anywhere.  B-Line Bar is making great strides to reopen, and Justine of Foxy’s tells me that a full restoration of Taboo is starting soon.

Norman Island

Pirates Bight leads the way on Norman Island with a fantastic menu and daytime hours (with one dinner seating at 6pm).   The staff of one of the BVI’s favorite restaurants worked hard and has opened for us. Pirates Bight is in exceptionally good shape.  Norman Island, as always, has some of the best snorkeling in the BVI with both the Caves and Indians in reach.  The harbor waters of the Bight are exceptional for a day of relaxing and playing.  The Willy T will be coming back soon with a new boat.

Starlight will be in Norman Island next week with a full report.

Anegada

Anegada was fortunate to bear less of a direct brunt than the rest of the islands.  Reports are in that Stephanie the Scooter Girl has a scooter waiting for you.  Cow Wreck Beach and Loblolly Beach are open for business with great food and fantastic swimming and snorkeling.

Starlight will be on charter next week with a full report.

ST. John and St. Thomas

The USVI has been working hard, as well.  The USVI has several spots open for chartering fun. Also, there are a several great organizations to donate to in the USVI including VI Strong and Kenny Chesney’s Love for Love City Foundation.

On, St. John:  The Virgin Islands National Park Service recently has several beaches open including Cinnamon, Trunk, Honeymoon and Hawksnest.  Cruz Bay is readying for tourism with several restaurants and shops, including one of our favorites Extra Virgin Bistro, open and ready to go.

St. Thomas, too, has places open and ready to go.  Nothing is more quintessential on USVI charter night that a day swimming and enjoying Pizza Pi in Christmas Cove.   Pizza Pi is in place.  Locals know to be at their “soft opening,” which is this year on December 16th.   Dinghy’s Beach Bar in Water Island is always a fun last stop and convenient for those flying from Charlotte Amalie.

Don’t worry about provisioning.  There are some great grocery stores open and stocked for us to provision your Virgin Islands charter.  We have visited Moe’s Fresh Market in St. Thomas and Rite Way in Tortola, both of which are fully stocked and have the freshest produce and meats.
